"Great Leaders don't create followers they create more leaders" - Rene Carayol
Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMME's) in South Africa, are responsible for between 35% and 50% of the GDP and employ more than half of the country's labour force, ranging from a single person to a workforce of 200 employees. Yet, the managers and entrepreneurs leading these organisations are not recognised for the extra effort they put in to keep them going and growing. Executive Coaching for Performance - As a Director, Manager, or Business Owner you are successful because you work very hard. Often, there is just that one something that needs a push, or that you can't put your finger on, which needs to happen to take you to the next level. Crystallising that would give you the time, clarity or confidence to take the next step. The next step might be growing your business, putting better systems in place, getting closer to your customers or trying to free up time for yourself to refocus. It could be related to:
- Perhaps you have become stuck in a rut, working so hard that you lose sight of your goals and how to achieve them. Your comfort zone is starting to feel uncomfortable.
- You're working in your organisation, not on it, as you should. "If you keep on doing what you've always done, you'll keep on getting what you've always got." - W.L. Bateman
It is my role as an executive coach to walk with you for a time, to challenge you when necessary and for you to become aware within yourself what you are capable of achieving; For you to take on the responsibility to do this in a structured way, setting clear goals based on your vision and achieving those goals. Business Coaching - The same as Executive Coaching? We consider the term business coaching similar to business consulting, i.e. working on the business and its processes, rather than on the individual. This is a very different process to coaching the individual. We would be happy to discuss our approach to Business Coaching with you. And Mentoring? The role of a Mentor is typically one where a more senior person (in the knowledge sense) acts as a guide to someone (a Mentee) who is about to start walking a similar path. Mentoring is very helpful to fast-track a new career or a new endeavour, and at the same time to avoid unnecessary pitfalls. The Mentor should ensure though, that the Mentee follows their own path. I have found the role of a Mentor to be a very rewarding one, from being able to give, from receiving, often in unexpected ways and from being challenged by new thoughts and core questions.

The focus of Executive Coaching is typically based on business and individual development in a professional framework. The Executive Coaching process consists of a series of typically 12 sessions over a 3, 6 or 12 months period, starting with regular sessions either face-to-face and/or over the phone and spreading out as the client (also called the coachee) starts implementing a plan of action.
Who would normally be our clients? To date clients have come from many different roles and backgrounds including managing directors, managers, artists, musicians and entrepreneurs, some who have been in business for a number of years and some who have just started.
- Where the coach and client are the only two parties in the coaching relationship:
Typically a brief, free intake session and evaluation is undertaken. This normally lasts about 15-20 minutes. The reason for this session? It is important that the coach and coachee can both decide if they want to work with each other. If we both then wish to proceed with an initial session, we can start at a time and day that suits all of the parties; It could even be straight away.
- Where three parties are involved - an organisational representative (the client), the coachee and the coach:
The three parties meet to discuss the outline of the coaching requirements, and to agree that there is a fit between the organisational requirements and the service to be provided; after which the coaching agreement is undertaken.
At all times the organisation as client will be briefed on the general progress of the sessions, but the confidentiality of the content of the sessions remains privileged between the coach and the coachee. Where required, tools and techniques such as psychometric or personality type-testing are used to enhance the intervention. This testing would be done at the beginning and the end of the complete intervention, so that relative measurement can take place. Face-to-face coaching typically takes place in Cape Town, Johannesburg or other major cities in South Africa. Telephone or virtual coaching occurs globally.
